These performance curves (see table below Fig. 2 ) are based on actual test data which has been adjusted to reflect a reasonable prediction of pump performance. Correction factors are based on field experience and actual test results pumping various types and consistencies of stock slurries. Please note that stock slurries may consist of long or short fiber, and may contain varying amounts of non-pulp materials (inks, entrained air, coatings, fillers, etc.). These can have an effect on the overall pumping characteristics of the stock, making precise prediction of performance difficult, if not impossible.
The rotary disc pump, centrifugal and positive displacement pump technologies use totally different principals of operation. These differences are reflected in the characteristic performance curves. The rotary disc pump curve is relatively flat, reflecting the slippage between molecular side-streams as discharge pressure increases. The P.D. curve illustrates (Fig. 1) decreasing flow versus increasing pressure, reflecting product slippage between internal clearances. The centrifugal curve has a characteristic arc, reflecting reduced flow versus increasing resistance of discharge back pressure against impeller centrifugal forces. Fig. 1
